        Checking and Upgrading Server Software

Note that you will require root access in order to use these directions.

In this guide, we will go over how to perform a server update and upgrade. This tutorial does require you to be logged in as the root user to the command line interface. Please be mindful that updating some packages could prevent others from working correctly.

        Checking for Updates

        1. Log into the servers command line interface.
        2. Run the following command to update server packages within the server.
          yum update

        Performing Upgrades

Using this method is the same as the update command with the –obsoletes flag set.

        1. Log into the servers command line interface.
        2. Run the following command to force an update which will remove obsolete packages within the server.
          yum upgrade

Congratulations, now you know how to check for updates, and perform upgrades on your Dedicated server!
